Clark’s is a bright, fresh neighborhood spot with a focused menu and thoughtful service. Oysters are the star here, of course—fourteen different varieties are available a la carte on the brunch menu. Pair a few with their homemade bread and butter, or with entrees such as shrimp toast, cioppino on grits, or lobster and farm eggs en cocotte. Sidewalk tables and bar seating are available for those without reservations.

This beloved Allandale institution has been the place for upscale interior Mexican since 1975. The Sunday brunch buffet features their legendary mole, along with cochinita pibil, ceviche, tamales, and a mind-boggling array of desserts. The restaurant is housed in a hacienda-style building decorated with world-class Mexican art, colorful frescoes, and lush tropical plants. You’ll feel like you stepped into colonial Mexico.

It’s hard to say which is more stunning, the restaurant’s Michael Hsu-designed interior, or its perfect, jewel-like dishes. Although the décor is sleek, the atmosphere is lively, thanks in part to the large communal tables. The menu features creative fare such as the jungle curry, with wagyu beef, eggplant, peppercorn, and coconut cream, alongside classics like pad thai and blue crab fried rice. Try the “son in law” – braised pork shoulder topped with a crispy soft-boiled egg. It’s almost too pretty to eat.

Breakfast food is deceptive—it’s easy to make acceptably well, but oddly difficult to perfect. Paperboy has perfected breakfast food. The menu is the epitome of quality over quantity, with seasonal items using local produce, eggs, and dairy. Expect a hash or breakfast bowl of some kind, sweet and savory open-faced toasts, and breakfast sandwiches such as the B.E.C., with thick-cut bacon, a sunny-side up egg, and pimento cheese.
